The BrandinAI audit bot

This page is for people who run a website or its firewall. It explains where BrandinAI audit requests come from, how to recognise them and how to let them in.

IP address

Every audit request comes from this address:

  • 51.222.206.220

The address is the surest way to recognise the audit: some requests present themselves as a browser or as other companies' crawlers (details below).

What the audit does

BrandinAI checks how a brand's website comes across in the answers of AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude. An audit is started by a BrandinAI user for their own brand's site, or by a visitor trying the free audit on brandinai.com.

The audit fetches only what the report needs: the home page, robots.txt, the sitemap and selected subpages. Each run has a fixed request and time limit. The audit is not an indexing crawler and does not collect content to train AI models.

User-Agent

Audit requests identify themselves as follows:

BrandinAIBot

Our declared bot: robots.txt, llms.txt and other technical files, and a check that the site opens for a bot the way it does for a browser.

Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; BrandinAIBot/2.0; +https://brandinai.com/bot)

Browser

Reads pages the way a visitor sees them: content, headers and structured data.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/125.0.0.0 Safari/537.36

Seomator

A technical SEO check of selected pages.

SEOmatorBot/1.0 (+https://github.com/seo-skills/seo-audit-skill)

AI and search crawler probes

The audit also sends a few requests with the identifiers of crawlers such as GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Googlebot and Bingbot to check whether the site lets them in. They come from the audit's address, not from those companies' addresses, so a firewall that verifies crawlers by address is right to turn them away.

How to allow the audit

  1. Add the audit's IP address to your firewall's exceptions (allowlist) - in Cloudflare, in your hosting panel or in a security plugin.
  2. An exception for the BrandinAIBot User-Agent alone lets only some requests through, because the others identify themselves differently.
  3. While you are there, check that the same rule does not stop AI assistants' crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot). If it does, they cannot read the site either, and that shapes what assistants say about it.
  4. Let the person who ordered the audit know - they can run it again.

robots.txt and blocking

The audit does not follow robots.txt rules: it reads them to assess how they treat AI assistants' crawlers. To keep the audit away from a site, block its IP address.
